Madison Equities plans to turn the triangular plot of land into a wedge-shaped condo tower, including four townhouses of about 4,500 square feet each. This will be the tallest residential building in Soho, and the project will be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
The car-wash replacing condo tower won unanimous approval from the Board of Standards and Appeals, despite claims from community associations that construction of the building would block neighbors' views and light.
The residential development required a variance because the site is zoned for commercial and industrial use.
The project, also known as 120 Sixth Avenue, will consist of a 204-foot high condo tower with four adjoining 25-foot wide townhouses designed by architect Cary Tamarkin.
Towering over its surroundings, the flatiron-shaped building will feature rounded glass windows, a black and blonde brick exterior, and a large clock at the top of the facade
Meanwhile, the four attached 25-foot-wide townhouses will be five stories apiece and each have elevators. Each one will have 11-foot ceilings and heated floors.
